Historical photos of Qajar era on display in Iran

An exhibition of historical photos of religious places during the Qajar era (1785-1925) has been put on display at a gallery in the Iranian capital, Tehran.

A collection of 17 photographs, 20x30 cm in size, taken by photographers of the Qajar era is on display at the City Photo Museum in Tehran.

The exhibit, which ends on June 25, features a selection of photos from archives and marks the first occasion such a collection is on public display.

Photography became popular in Iran during the late Qajar period. The movement grew in popularity due to the enthusiastic response by Qajar king Nasser al-Din Shah, who ruled from 1848 to 1896.

Many new photographic techniques were imported into Iran during the king’s reign.
